Here’s what I knew about golf before I started researching for this article: words and phrases. Mulligan, niblick, long off the tee, play it as it lies — none of those made it into this piece. Break in the carpet? Nope.
I spoke with Justin and his mom, Jani Thomas, on the phone. They’re both lovely people. I really liked her advice for other parents of athletes to “just love them, no matter what. Make it fun and let them be happy.”
She also told me what a special time it was when Justin was younger. competing in junior tournaments. They were making memories and logging a lot of miles together in the car on those trips.
