Canoe Kentucky

Canoe Kentucky celebrated its 40th year in business in 2021. Article written by Kathie Stamps for Business Lexington magazine.

A profile on Canoe Kentucky for Business Lexington.

What a cool business. Your customers want one thing—fun—and you get paid for it. Canoe Kentucky is a family-owned business in Frankfort, Kentucky, renting and selling boats.

But not boat-boats like I pictured in my head every time co-owner Nathan Depenbrock said the word boat. He meant canoes, kayaks, paddleboards and rafts. You know, boats.

I used Otter.ai to record my phone conversation with him, which is always pretty hilarious to see how the app spells certain words and phrases. According to the transcript, Nathan was talking about Tony Tony at one point. What? Tony Who? I listened to the recording. Oh, 2020. Twenty-twenty. (Nathan has a regular voice and accent, so the reasoning escapes me why the app was all tony-fied.)

Here’s the online version of this article on Canoe Kentucky. as it appeared in the May 2021 issue of Business Lexington.
